The fifth book in the Feedback Loop series - death, betrayal, new beginnings. This action-packed, sci-fi gamelit fantasy series has it all.
Quantum Hughes and the rest of the Dream Team are in for a serious awakening when tragedy strikes the team. Finding Strata Godsick's son isn't as easy it they originally thought it would be, and real world repercussions seem to put a damper on everything they do. This on top of the fact that they're being hunted in both the Proxima Galaxy and the real world only raises the stakes even higher.
Ultima Thule, a rebirth, a death, a betrayal, a mysterious Reaper -- this is the book that turns hunters to hunted, innocent to guilty, friends to enemies, the expected to the unexpected.

The Mechanical Heart Book Five The Feedback Loop 5 eBook Harmon Cooper George C Hopkins
Harmon Cooper is an incredible writer. I first read a couple of his Life is a Beautiful Things first and really enjoyed them. So I started reading the Feedback Loop Books. I LOVE them. The detailed way the the interaction between the characters is so real. The stories flow so logically, even when the things that happen are not very logical. Even the background characters are fully fleshed.Book 5 takes a couple of twists that I didn't see coming but is wonderful. I am starting book 6 as soon as I finish this review.

The Mechanical Heart Book Five The Feedback Loop 5 eBook Harmon Cooper George C Hopkins Reviews
"The Mechanical Heart" is Book Five in 'The Feedback Loop' series by author Harmon Cooper with editor George C. Hopkins.
This e-book was approximately 345 printed pages and sold for $4.99 at the time of writing this review.
General Theme (minor spoilers)
This 5th book continues to follow our group of RPG heroes as they zip in and out of a virtual reality realm that has turned out to be much more than a simply virtual reality video game. Actions and events have profound effects and consequences in the real world.
Some thoughts on "The Mechanical Heart"...
Another exciting and oft times hilarious read was we follow the antic of a group of misfit gamers. Starring, of course, the center of attention, Quantum Hughes.
Impression
After 5 books of returning to one variation or another of a virtual reality video game, you'd be tempted to think that you'd become bored or numb to the repetitive nature of the writing and storyline... not so. Harmon Cooper is an author of considerable skill allowing him to entertain his readers with fresh ideas, scenarios, dialogues and humor.
This series is to be 8 books long... 5 down; 3 to go (I can hardly wait).
As it is... 5 Stars

In all, a fun installment in The Feedback Loop series by Harmon Cooper. If you have not read the prior installments, please don't start here! Go back to The Feedback Loop, Steampunk is Dead, High Fantasy, Reapers and Repercussions, then this book. Otherwise you will miss out on so much back-story, character development, and the overall arc of the series. Public Services Announcement is concluded.
In the Mechanical Heart, the Dream Team is still on the hunt for Strata's son. It's driving the team into some high-stakes danger and I'll share that there is death in the Real World. I won't spoil who/what/when/how as that would make me a douche canoe.
Morning Assassin continues to be, well, Morning Assassin. He has evolved into a likeable and capable resource for the Dream Team.
Quantum is making strides to plant himself in the RW and he even makes a friend out of FDA/PTSD Monitor #1351885. In fact, I look forward for future development here.
There are still loads of pop-culture references sprinkled throughout the book with Doc and Quantum, being the old pair, doing most of the one-liners. Sophia does make an attempt, though. The Brits have a smaller role in this installment, but Pip gets to spend some quality time with his Sheep. Oh, Tom Myspace is alive and well in the Proxima World.
The majority of this book centers on the quest to find Strata's son. There is a powerful roadblock in the team's way and it is brutal.
Author provided advance review copy.
The ride continues. It's a great read that you won't be able to put down.

I've written some lengthier reviews for other books in the series. Be sure to start from book one for sure.
I'll keep this review short and sweet
This is the best entry in the series so far. Command of drama and tension. Character introduction and development. Emotional intelligence. Suspense. Surprise. All of it. This one floored me. I haven't felt this good since I finished reading book one of the series. I'm writing this review after finishing book 6. I had to go back and re-read book 5 to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Yes, this one is that good.
